Ladakh The Itch List Bucket List road trip houses

Day 01: Welcome to Leh!

Arrive at Leh Kushok Bakula Airport (This must be one of the Most Sensational Flights in the World. On a clear day from one side of the aircraft can be seen in the distance the peaks of K2, Nanga Parbat, Gasherbrum and on the other side of the aircraft, so close that you feel you could reach out and touch it, is the Nun Kun massif.) Upon arrival you will be met by our representative and transfer to Hotel for Check in. Complete day for rest and leisure to acclimatize followed by Welcome tea or Coffee at the Hotel. Overnight in Leh

Day 02 : Leh- Explore the city!

Post breakfast we drive on the Srinagar highway and start our day by visiting the hall of fame – museum constructed by the Indian army, gurudwara patthar sahib nestled deep in the himalayas, which was built by the lamas of leh in 1517 to commemorate the visit of guru nanak dev. further we experience the magnetic hill which defies the law of gravity. We stop at the confluence of the indus and Zanskar. Later return to the hotel. Overnight in Leh.

Day 03 : Adventure + Sightseeing- Leh to Nubra Valley

After an early breakfast we drive to Nubra valley crossing khardung-la-pass – the highest motorable road in the world at 18,380 ft. Nubra valley is popularly known as ldorma or the valley of flowers. it is situated to the north of Ladakh between the karakoram and Ladakh ranges of the himalayas. check in at the resort and later visit the Samstaling monastery. Enjoy your evening at the campsite. Overnight in Nubra Valley.

Day 04: Exploring Culture and History: Nubra Valley – Turuk – Nubra Valley (3 hrs / 80 kms / one way)

After morning breakfast at hotel / Camp proceed to, Turtuk : The turbulent Shyok valley between Hunder and Turtuk is 80km of scenic magnificence marred only very occasionally by military installations. The grand raw-rock valley briefly narrows near tiny Changmar, the western limit of Ladakhi-Buddhist culture. Thereafter, the rare green splashes of village are culturally and linguistically Muslim-Balti. The main centres of both Turtuk and less visited Bogdang villages are raised patchworks of fields and houses on terrace ledges above the main road. Summer sees locals carting huge bundles of barley on their backs between the apricot trees. Upper Turtuk has unforgettable views towards serrated high peaks in Pakistan: the front line is only 7km away. Indeed Turtuk itself was in Pakistan until the 1971 war.

Later return to the Nubra Valley. Overnight in Nubra Valley.

Day 05: Amidst Sand Dunes: Nubra valley – leh (190 kms / 7 hrs)

After your breakfast at the camp, visit the sand dunes to enjoy a camel safari (optional). Later we drive to leh over khardung la. Afternoon rest and relax or take a walk to the local market. Overnight in Leh.

Day 06: The Local Route: Sit back like a native!

After morning breakfast at hotel, proceed for the local sightseeing of Leh covering,

Shey: Located on a hill Shey contains a gold topped victory Stupa. The monastery has a two storied statue of Sakyamuni Buddha wrought with copper and gold. The walls of the Du-Khang are adorned with beautiful frescos. Since the monastery is exclusive, it is preferable to make arrangements to see this monastery with the head Lama beforehand. Many chortens can be seen to the east of the Monastery. A traveler should not miss the engraving on a rook-face beside the main road below the monastery which represent five Buddha’s in meditation.

Thicksey: Located on a hill Shey contains a gold topped victory Stupa. The monastery has a two storied statue of Sakyamuni Buddha wrought with copper and gold. The walls of the Du-Khang are adorned with beautiful frescos. Since the monastery is exclusive, it is preferable to make arrangements to see this monastery with the head Lama beforehand. Hemis: Hemis Monastery is the wealthiest monastery in India and famous for its rich collection of ancient remnants like the statue of Buddha made of copper, stupas made of gold and silver. Monastery also has sacred Thangkas, murals and various artifacts. The Tibetan Buddhist monastery belongs to the Drukpa Lineage or the Dragon Order of Mahayana Buddhism. Gyalwang Drukpa, Tsangpa Gyare Yeshe Dorje in founded Drukpa Linegae 13th century. King Sengge Namgyal re-established it in the 17th century.

3 idiots School: The Druk White Lotus School which shot to fame after it featured in Aamir Khan-starrer 3 Idiots.

Sindhu Ghat: Sindhu Ghat is in Leh and is 10 kms ahead the upstream Indus River near Shrey. It is one of the most peaceful river banks. Indus River or the Sindhu River initiates close to Mansarovar Lake and Mt Kailash in Tibet and then enters India and enters Pakistan by flowing through the

Leh Valley. In Sanskrit, Sindhu denotes a ‘large water body’ and this river is one of the most important rivers in the history of India. India is named after this river and the name Hindus comes from the name Sindhu in Arab. This river is a sacred river out of the seven mentioned in the history of India.Overnight in Leh.

Day 07: Overnight Camp by a Lake

After an early breakfast we leave for Pangong lake through the changla pass at 5486 mtrs. Pangong lake, situated at 14,000 feet (4,267 m) is a long narrow basin of inland drainage, hardly six to seven kilometer at its widest point and over 130km in length. It is bisected by the international border between India and China. Enjoy the landscape in the back drop of the lake. One rarely feels so close to nature and environment and the scenery is unforgettable. Evening at leisure and overnight stay at the camp near lake.

Day 08: Back to base

After morning breakfast, morning at leisure to explore the beauty of lake and later we drive back to leh. Overnight in Leh.

Day 09: Fare Thee Well!

After morning breakfast at hotel, proceed to Leh airport to board the flight to onward destination.
